Imation 1640 Reader Printer
Introducing a whole lot of machine for the money
High-speed printing...and a whole lot more
A fully featured, high-performance workhorse, the new 1640 Reader Printer from Imation prints up to 21 A-size, 15 B-size or 12 C-size plain paper prints per minute.
And it doesn't sacrifice convenience - or low cost - for speed. It has all the latest time-and labor-saving features you would expect in a top-of-the-line reader printer. Zoom lens. Automatic exposure control. Automatic paper and card feeds. Dual roll paper input. Manual sheet bypass. Large, easy-to-read 18" x 24" viewing screen. Automated control panel. All in a rugged, compact machine that's very affordable.
Proven reliability
Imation has built a reputation for functional, hard-working machines that last. Print after print. Day after day.
For the new 1640 we simply took the best features of our proven models and made them even more productive and durable. Result: the 1640 is so fast and reliable you can use it as your sole microfilm output printer.
Versatile and simple to operate
Designed to be as user-friendly as a copy machine, the 1640 Reader Printer gives you the versatility of walk-up viewing, viewing and printing, or printing alone. The control panel has been simplified so anyone can operate it quickly the first time. With a touch of a button you can view a series of cards or make high-quality prints. Touch another to select the proper media size from plain bond paper or vellum.
Automatic exposure control
Adjusting for the different background densities of microfilm has always been a source of frustration and wasted time. Not any more. The 1640 will automatically make the proper exposure adjustments for background densities of both silver halide and diazo films. You get optimum image quality and hardcopies fast. There is also a manual exposure control setting for greater latitude in getting high-quality prints from even low-quality microfilm.
Zoom lens
The 1640 Reader Printer features a zoom lens that magnifies from 7.4x all the way to 18x in .1x increments. For greater convenience and productivity, you can also choose from three preset magnifications. These can be changed by your operator at any time to meet your specifications.
Manual bypass
You can eliminate changing rolls when you need special media or print sizes by feeding single sheets through the manual bypass. Sheets can be plain bond paper or vellum.
Automatic dual roll paper feed
You can load two 500-foot rolls of paper in 8-1/2", 11", 17" or 18" widths in the 1640 Reader Printer. Changing rolls is easy and the machine automatically cuts the paper to length, prints up to 99 copies from each card and stacks prints neatly in the exit tray. If you normally print out the same size hardcopies, you can minimize paper roll changes by loading both rolls with the same size paper.
The auto roll select mode will automatically switch rolls for longer print runs.
Automatic card feed
Place your cards in the automatic card feeder and the 1640 gives you a variety of options. In the autoview mode you can vary the card viewing interval from .5 to 5 seconds, saving you time when only a glance is necessary and giving you more time when you need it. This mode also lets you stop and make prints on demand. In the autoprint mode, the 1640 automatically produces the quantity and size of prints that you select for each card. And in the individual print mode, it outputs single or multiple copies at the touch of a button.
The unique and time-proven straight-through card feed system prevents bending, reduces wear and tear on cards and, most important, ensures almost error-free feeding. Hands-free operation mean you spend less time handling your cards...and more time concentrating on your data.
Sharper, clearer prints
Now your prints will look better than ever. The 1640 features an imaging process that lays down sharper, clearer, more well defined images. So even detailed drawings and documents are clear and readable.

World-renowned service and support
You get far more than hardware and supplies from Imation. You also get our vast network of service and support coupled with the experience and resources of the acknowledged expert in engineering document distribution.
So you don't just get a whole lot of machine for the money with the 1640 Reader Printer. You get a lot of company as well.
Wherever you need speed, productivity and reliability, the Imation 1640 fits.
The 1640 Reader Printer is a perfect addition to the Imation Communication by Card system. Picture the flow: an Imation processor camera or film plotter quickly converts engineering design information to aperture cards. An Imation card duplicator reproduces the cards at low cost and high speed. And your 1640 Reader Printers, installed at central, remote and/or satellite locations, let your view the information directly from the card...or print out high-quality hardcopies instantly.
The 1640 is an ideal walk-up viewer and demand printer. But it is so fast and productive you can use it as the sole output printer for your microfilm aperture cards.
